NASA in Aberdeen: Humans Exploring Mars

Sat, Mar 6 (3:00am - 4:30am)
Online

Description

The human fascination with Mars has spanned millennia – from ancient prehistoric astrological beliefs to modern day sci-fi inspiration. With plans for human landings and potential colonisation in the near future, Mars continues to maintain a unique place in the human psyche. Without yet stepping a foot on the red planet, Mars has profoundly and at times, unexpectedly, impacted the humans that have remotely explored it. This exciting talk will explore the experiences of the Mars pioneering teams, bringing the cutting edge of the greatest space race of our time right into your own home.

Bring your curiosity and all your space questions – come with us as we explore the red planet through the eyes of those who know it best! As one of our goals is inspiring the future Mars astronauts amongst us, questions from primary aged pupils will be prioritised in the first part of the Q&A.

Tim Browett of the Institute of Physics Scotland, is an experienced public speaker, teacher and trainer of physics and astronomy. He has delivered talks and workshops for the National Space Academy, the Association for Science Education, Aberdeen Astronomical Society, Robert Gordon’s College and many others.
